Kotooshu

KOTOOSHU - 16th foreigner and the first  representative of Bulgaria, who attained himself the right to appear in the strongest category of the Japanese Professional Sumo.
on the way from the initial division dzenokutchi  to makuutchi he had to pass through 11 tournaments. This is a record for the national Japanese fight!
Kotooshu is a 2-meter heigh Balkan giant, who already deserved comparison with yokodzuna Akebono, and the specialists predict a bright future for the Bulgarian.
Kaloyan Stefanov Mahlyanov was born on February 19, 1983, in the city of Veliko Tarnovo, in the family of a school teacher.

When the boy was 9 years old, he was fascinated by the freestyle wrestling. In 2000, Kaloyan was considered best European champion in his weight category - up to 100 kilograms.
In May, 2002 the second-year student of the National Sports Academy won the Open Championship of Germany for amateurs and was represented to oyakata of sadogatake (53-1 yokodzuna of Kotodzakura).
Already at the age of 13, Mahlyanov was 187 centimeters. But during the anthropometric tests when entering the maedzumo (preparatory division) the future hero established his first record in the national Japanese sport. Instruments fixed an increase in the novice - 202 centimeters. Before him only three rikishi had reached the 2-meter mark. The latter of them was the future first yokodzuna - foreigner Akebono, who is 4 centimeters higher than Kotooshu.

In November 2002, under the pseudonym Kotooshu, the Bulgarian made a debut on the professional dohyo. At the beginning of his career, the young European gained 13 victories, winning simultaneously a small goblet in the initial division - dzenokutchi. Before the March tournament in 2003, Kotooshu obtained a serious injury of the right elbow. Oyakata strongly recommended him to go into hospital, but the brave rikishi decided to stay in the battle and after rising to the arena 7 times, the giant suffered only one defeat.
Rapidly passing by the 5th and 4th divisions - dzenidan and sandanme - in September 2003 Kotooshu obtained the right to come out in the division of makushita. In March 2004, after receiving a small goblet for the victory in the third division, the Bulgarian obtained designation in dzhuryo division and the title of sekitori.
The distance from dzenokutchi to dzhuryo Kotooshu overcame for 9 tournaments, and was just one step behind the great champions Takanohana and Asashoryu.
After winning 23 victories out of  30 duels and after obtaining the third small goblet, in September 2004 the Bulgarian was ranked among the 42 strongest rikishi in Japan.

The Balkan champion took part in 191 duels and has won 139 victories. In the makuutchi division Kotooshu has won 68 out of 105 fights. The rikishi is a prizewinner of two cups - Kantose and Kyukunse.
In March 2005 Kotooshu was promoted komusubi. In September 2005 the hero obtained the title of sekiwake.
One of the most successful techniques of the Bulgarian is the power fight, with the help of which he succeeds in covering the belt of rival above his right hand.
From the first days of his stay in Japan Kotooshu did not hide, that he is interested in the financial incentives. The young man burned with desire to support his parents. After returning to the native land, having won his place into the makushita division, Kaloyan presented a "Ford" to his parents as a gift.
His favourite rikishi is yokodzuna Takanokhana.
The Japanese call Kotooshu "Sumo Beckam" comparing the fighter with the English football player, who is considered an ideal of man beauty in Japan.
In his free time Kotooshu prefers to "surf" in the Internet.
